Warwick Academy Alumni Cocktail Party held September 12th 2008
Your Alumni committee held a bigger and better Cocktail Party on September 12th, 2008.
The event was held in the old beloved quadrangle and we had marquees and lanterns and lights in the trees. The ambiance was perfect. We again had good grub from Fourways – including turkey along with the beef at the carvery. The cheese and fruit station was overflowing! Fresh vegetables and dip along with hors d’oeuvres were also served. No one went hungry! Our beloved staff and supporter attended the two bars and a big Thank You to Goslings, Steve Dunkley, Barritt’s and Swizzle for their contributions.
Along with the raffles and silent auction (bargains were had) we also held a quiz. All the questions were about the school, its history and some of its teachers. This was received with much enthusiasm and our winning group of four was, surprisingly, quite young, seeing as there were questions ranging from the schools founding right through to the present. The winners took home a bottle of Goslings black each, a WA Quiz winner trophy and their entry fee back.
Winton, a very talented pianist who is a WA student, and Shine Hayward entertained us with live music while Jason Sukdeo (committee member and Alumni) carried the evening through with the some great DJ music. Thank you Gentlemen.
Our guest of honor was Maggie McCorkell, the new Principal of Warwick Academy. Maggie spoke for a short while on her pride and excitement about her new position. The school is very lucky to have Maggie who has already made her mark on how her school will excel.
We also enjoyed a few celebrities in the midst – notably, Collie Buddz, Nadanjah and Flora Duffy. We thank you all for coming and supporting your school and fellow Alumni.
During the evening Norman Mastalir, of the Southampton Fairmont, was invited to speak about the new fund raising initiative called the 400 Club. (Please contact Jane Vickers in the Development Office for more details). It is hoped that the founding of this “Club” will raise much needed funding for the schools development, both for the physical building and the educational offerings to the students. Norman very generously offered a weekend at the Fairmont to the first 100 to sign up in this Club. I wonderful offer – Thank you Mr. Mastalir.
Your committee is reviewing possible dates for the 2009 Cocktail Party and will announce the date as soon as it is confirmed. We are looking at May or early June.
On behalf of all the committee we thank everyone how helped make this fun night come together.
Most Sincerely,
