Sports Reports
After a very frustrating afternoon getting caught in several squalls and the Sports day not getting finished, my spirits lifted slightly when my middle school basketball team defeated Dellwood by the score of 19 to 13, although it was definitely not one of our better performances.
Raushon Tankard once again led all scorers with 11 points followed by Lochlan Broadley with 5 points and Conner Custodio with 3, but I was most impressed by young Joey Dougherty who played with great intensity and confidence against far bigger and older opposition.
Travelling next to Cedarbridge I hoped the senior boys would continue to brighten an otherwise dour day, but unfortunately they lost by the score of 42 to 49. This was actually a good game, but it was also their second defeat of the week after losing to Berkeley by a narrow margin on Tuesday night. The 2 losses allowed Cedarbridge to sneak in and win the league, but the boys still have the end of season tournament to battle for.
This team has played some great basketball, especially considering most of their starters come from our year 10 and 11 students, but they also have some injury issues at the moment and will be hoping to get to full strength before their next and season ending games.
Tonight Juron Tucker stepped up with 15 points, Tevis Spence scored 11 points and Robele Baker added a quick 7 having played only a few minutes.
Eron Woods had another solid game on defense contributing many blocks, but they have to work far harder on both ends of the floor and improve their percentage of rebounds in particular.
They will look to do so next on Tuesday at MSA. Game time 5:30 and then the post season tournament begins on Wednesday.
